The construction of the Pavilion we donated to the new croquet courts in Memorial Park is well underway and should be completed soon! Within the structure we will have storage for our equipment back on site. Many thanks to Stuart Coco and Joe Leary for bringing out the wickets, and all and setting up the courts during this interim period. The grow in of the new lawns will continue as we get more warm weather.
In other exciting news the USCA Club Doubles National Championship was held last weekend in West Palm Beach Florida at the National Croquet Center. Our club was represented by ten doubles teams and three cheerleaders. For many it was there first taste of competitive croquet at a USCA sanctioned event on the national stage. We were all there supporting each other and our friendly Texas presence was certainly felt by all. While we all had our ups and downs during our matches, our number one team of John Brown and Bob Pulitzer rose to the top in the Championship Flight! After going 3 and 3 in the round robin part of tournament which established seeding for the playoffs, they proceeded to win there next three games including knocking off the number one seed in the semi finals and going on to defeat the number two seed in the finals. This required making two wickets in last turn to win by one. I can send you a link if you want to watch the final match. I can’t wait to see who responds. Many thanks to John Craddock for organizing and to Kit Detering for arranging many of our social engagements.
I hope to see everyone at our annual meeting on April 11th.
